Educational Aims of the Course

The aim of this programme is for students to gain academic and intellectual progression in discrete areas of international business, corporate and finance law, together with the acquisition of specific knowledge and skills. Within the context of the University's mission statement and responsiveness to national and international needs, curriculum innovation and continuing quality enhancement, the programme objectives are to:
Provide students with knowledge and critical analysis of key themes of business, corporate and finance law using the exemplar of English law set against an international backdrop.
Provide advanced legal knowledge and skills directly relevant to the international business, corporate and finance sectors through the delivery of intellectually stimulating course content underpinned in many areas by internationally recognised research.
Provide critical analysis of the complexities arising in this specialist field using challenging and informative global and comparative perspectives. The course is underpinned by the significant engagement with existing and emerging research and advanced scholarship.
Develop originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in the discipline.

Critically evaluate, analyse and assess the nature of the legal framework, structure and regulation impacting on business, corporate and financial organisations using the exemplar of English law set against an international context.

Develop a more in depth knowledge and understanding which is sufficient to critically evaluate key issues and current developments in relevant areas of international business, corporate and finance law.

Show originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry may be used to create and interpret knowledge in relevant areas of law.

Have a systematic understanding and critical awareness of current problems and contemporary issues and/or insights into the changing nature of UK and international business, corporate and financial organisations operating within a multi-national framework.

Demonstrate conceptual understanding and evidence critical evaluation, current research and advanced scholarship in the areas of international business, corporate or finance law.

Critically evaluate arguments, assumptions and abstract concepts and so formulate judgements and identify a range of solutions to a given problem.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment

The methods used to enable outcomes to be achieved and demonstrated are as follows:
All Learning Outcomes contained within this programme of study are assessed through the core and option Modules. Assessment is used to judge student performance against the standards set. Assessment is used to give students the opportunity to demonstrate achievement of the relevant learning outcomes in accordance with The QAA UK Quality Code Formative assessment is conducted through group interaction in the preparation of work for seminars, and summative assessment is provided through the completion of course work and the final dissertation. All taught modules, both Core and Option, are assessed summatively via written coursework of 4500 words. These assessments will require students to display independent learner status through exposition, knowledge and understanding of the stated Learning Outcomes for each Module and the programme as a whole.

This programme of study is designed to enhance the employability and promotion prospects of persons in the international business corporate and finance sectors. It is relevant to a variety of individuals holding corporate and other positions within these discrete areas.
Additionally, this qualification develops skills appropriate to a range of careers within allied or related areas. Whether or not an individual pursues a career in business, corporate and financial law, this postgraduate degree will provide a set of intellectual and practical skills that will aid career development. Holders of this award may also find positions in the field of education and research including continuing their study for a Ph.D.

The Part Time course may be completed in 2 years; The programme permits a January start date. For the part time programme, in Year 1 students will be enrolled on 60 credits which will consist of 7156LAWBC Advanced Legal Research Methods plus two options and in Year 2 students will … For more content click the Read More button below. The pass mark for all modules is 50% except for Advanced Legal Research Methods which is a pass/fail module. The rationale for this is that the module is a skills based module assessing basic competencies. This is normative within the discipline and has student body support. The Advanced Legal Research Methods Module must be passed prior to the submission of the Dissertation.While all reasonable attempts will be made to offer all options in any given year, occasionally it may not be possible to offer a particular module. In such an event, students will be notified of this at the beginning of the course.An alternative exit award of Postgraduate Diploma in International Business Corporate and Finance Law will be offered to students who do not achieve a pass in the dissertation module but have gained 120 credits within the programme.An alternative award of Postgraduate Certificate in International Business Corporate and Finance Law will be offered to students who have gained 60 credits at the point they exit the course, the 60 credits may not include the dissertation module.
