1.
Critically examine the concepts of and tools for evidence-based practice, including theoretical frameworks, types of evidence and methods of critical appraisal.
2.
Critically review research methods used for generation and interpretation of evidence.
3.
Critically reflect on the use of institutional and publicly available data to support student outcomes.
4.
Understand ethical considerations and research governance related to use of institutional data as evidence base.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment

This module is designed to develop staff capacity to critically evaluate the contribution to evidence-based practice, to devise, plan and evaluate change.  It emphasises the importance of secondary data analysis, and Theory of Change/logic model as a framework for evidence-unformed intervention.  The module outcomes include development of knowledge and skills in both the theory and application of evidence sources to enable staff to design pedagogic interventions aligned with the Office for Students’ Equality of Opportunity framework.   Assessment: Completion of a Logic Model associated with a chosen enhancement initiative, with an accompanying narrative defending their choices.

Opportunities for work related learning

The programme is designed to support teaching staff who are currently working in a Higher Education environment. It is, therefore, fundamentally associated with the workplace and practice. All teaching is rooted in an exploration of the relationship between theory and practice and the programme's assessment strategy focuses on assessment tasks that have direct relevance to practitioners
