Educational Aims of the Course

This is a Level 6-only programme that provides students who have completed the Foundation Degree in Construction Management in Housebuilding with the opportunity to complete a Degree with Honours in Construction Management in Housebuilding. This programme therefore builds on learning outcomes already achieved at Levels 4 and 5 on the Foundation Degree: by completing Level 4 modules students will have demonstrated knowledge of the underlying concepts and principles associated with Construction Management in the Housebuilding sector and by completing Level 5 modules students will have acquired knowledge of specific aspects of the sector including statutory regulations, more advanced construction methods and will have developed further academic skills in research as preparation for Level 6. The overall aim of the programme is to provide students with a national and local understanding and appreciation of the professional discipline of Construction Management with particular reference to the housebuilding sector. The specific aims for this Level 6 'top-up' programme are: To provide a well-balanced education which allows the student to achieve their full academic potential at first degree level and in doing so to facilitate the development of independent logical thought and judgement. To enable the student to develop their intellectual, critical, analytical and reflective thinking within an evidence and research based framework via the completion of a Research Project. To provide knowledge in more advanced aspects of the discipline as appropriate for the role of a construction professional in the housebuilding sector. To produce a basis for linking general practical experience in the housebuilding sector with academic studies to encourage an awareness of the professional, business and commercial environment.
