Educational Aims of the Course
The overall aim of the programme is to support students in developing skills relevant to independent prescribing practice in a defined area of practice. The course will provide the skills and knowledge required to ensure safe and effective practice as an independent prescriber. Successful completion of the course will demonstrate the student's competence to allow annotation on the General Pharmaceutical Council or Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland's registers as an independent prescriber.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Lectures, seminars, workshops, work-based activities, and self directed study. Examinations (MCQs and case analysis),case reports, presentations, portfolio. Lectures, seminars, case studies, workplace-based activities, student-directed learning, Teaching Objective Structured Clinical Examination (TOSCE),and portfolio. Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE),oral and written case reports and written reports, portfolio and Designated Medical Practitioner competence assessment. Examples include the use of computer software to prepare reports and presentations, maintaining an online portfolio, and group working. Case presentations, portfolio and critical reflection.
