Educational Aims of the Course

To prepare students for the demands of a postgraduate taught course by building on the knowledge gained and academic skills acquired in earlier studies in their home countries. To further develop the students’ English language, number, word-processing, research and other study skills appropriate to study at postgraduate level. To introduce the student to UK higher education teaching styles and to provide students with opportunities to acquire, through the teaching medium of English, a sound and appropriate knowledge base in their chosen discipline. To develop the students’ intellectual appreciation of issues relevant to their chosen pathway and related subjects at postgraduate level and to assist the students in acquiring the skills in the collection, analysis, interpretation and understanding of appropriate data and information in preparation for a postgraduate taught degree. To enable international students to progress to one of the following postgraduate programmes at Liverpool John Moores University: MSc Digital Marketing, MSc Entrepreneurship, MSc Financial Management, MA Human Resource Management, MSc International Human Resource Management, MSc Management and Digital Business, MSc Management, LLM European Law, LLM/MSc Global Crime, Justice and Security, LLM International Business Corporate and Finance Law, MA Criminal Justice.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment

Acquisition of knowledge and understanding will be achieved via a combination of lectures, workshops, group discussions and seminars, critiques, individual tutorials and independent and directed research and study. A range of assessment methods to include exams, reports, essays, projects, presentations, listening tests, and reading and writing tests Intellectual skills will be further developed via debate, data analysis, critical reading exercises, lectures, group work and case studies. Professional and practical skill teaching and learning will comprise lectures, workshops, group discussions and seminars, critiques, individual tutorials and independent and directed research and study. Transferable skills are incorporated within modules and related to assessments. Developing and acquiring transferable skills is intrinsic to the programmes curriculum design. Opportunities for work related learning

Students will be using work-related scenarios and case studies as part of the teaching, learning and assessment strategy. The development of employability skills is embedded into the structure, design and assessment of the programme. Students will develop skills in the areas of employability such as: Communication, problem solving, team work and leadership, self-management and reflection.

The Pre Masters Programme will be offered as a full time programme with a start date in March. Students will need to successfully complete 60 credits at level 6. Law Students must take the Law Studies module. All other students must take the Economics module.
