Educational Aims of the Course
To provide students with the opportunity to engage in the academic study of nursing To provide students with an understanding of disciplinary perspectives in the study of nursing To enable students to identify and understand key arguments in the thematic study of nursing in contemporary society in local, national and global contexts To link theoretical analysis with enquiry in considering issues related to nursing, while nurturing students' intellectual and creative potential To enable students to become rigorous, critical and analytical in their thinking about the interplay between nursing and healthcare, policy, and societal factors To provide the opportunity for students to achieve full academic potential through master’s level study which encourages a high degree of initiative, independent judgement, self-motivation, critical self-awareness and self-education To provide training in research methods and approaches applicable to their own research and scholarly development
Learning Outcomes
1.
Evaluate current scholarship and research in nursing, including a critical awareness of current scholarship around nursing health and wellbeing.
2.
Act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks.
3.
Select appropriate analytical techniques and critical approaches.
4.
Develop an appropriate theoretical framework for analysis.
5.
Develop and critique methodologies, and where appropriate, refine them.
6.
Deal with complex issues systematically and creatively, making judgements and communicating conclusions to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
7.
Present research and written reports and identify the tensions that exist between theory/research and practice.
8.
Make decisions in challenging, complex and unpredictable situations.
9.
Demonstrate communication effectively, with colleagues and a wider audience, in a variety of ways.
10.
Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems in creative and innovative ways.
