Educational Aims of the Course
To prepare students for a range of technical, professional and management careers in construction and the built environment with a common core of study applicable to the sector. To provide a choice of specialist studies appropriate to the main career disciplines within the built environment. To enable students to make an effective and immediate contribution in employment in the construction and built environment sector. To provide students with flexibility, knowledge, understanding, skills and motivation as a basis for progression to graduate and postgraduate studies. To develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life. To provide a significant education base for progression to membership of professional bodies in the construction and built environment sector.
Teaching, Learning and Assessment
Teaching sessions include lectures and tutorials; workshop sessions in a classroom, PC-lab; practical lab based sessions, off-site learning activities and participation in a group project. Assessment methods include examinations; written essays and reports; oral presentations; preparation of posters; visual designs using bespoke software.
