Aims

To examine the theoretical and policy landscape of education issues and practice.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Evaluate and synthesise diverse perspectives and research findings from various academic sources on a selected educational issue.
2.
Demonstrate research and information literacy skills, including the ability to effectively locate, analyse, and cite relevant academic literature related to an educational issue.
3.
Articulate a well-structured and coherent argument showcasing appropriate written communication skills adhering to appropriate academic writing conventions.
4.
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical frameworks that underpin educational research and apply these frameworks effectively in the analysis and interpretation of an educational issue.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
To include but not be limited to;

Critical examination of educational issues.  The impact of theory on educational policy and practice.  The social, cultural and organisational context of education.  The learning environment.  Policy setting and policy enactment.  Policy migration - the relationships between international and national factors that shape practice. Learning infrastructure and technological advances.
Module Overview:
Students will interrogate literature, research findings and policies that shape education practice.
Additional Information:
This module explores the contentious and challenging impact on practice of educational thinking, theory and policy.  Students will focus on how this plays out in their own area of professional practice.  This will allow them to deconstruct the various forces that shape education in its broadest sense, as well as reflect on their own role in the development of theory, practice and/or policy.
