Aims

The aim of this module is for studens to demonstrate that they have met the required standards for the Department for Education's mandatory qualification for teachers of the multi--sensory impaired, outlined at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mandatory-qualifications-specialist-teachers.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate and present a critical understanding of how theory and practice can be applied to individual children and young people with multi-sensory impairments.
2.
Demonstrate attainment of the standards for the mandatory qualification for teachers of the multi-sensory impaired.
3.
Critically synthesis knowledge and experience of teaching learners with multi-sensory impairment for a range of educational needs, settings, and issue.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
This module assesses the student's attainment of the standards for the Department for Education's Mandatory Qualification for the Teacher of the Multi-sensory Impaired. Seminars and tutorials prepare students for the final assessments of the programme, which assess their acquisition of the standards through:
  • Component 1 - case study report with presentation and questioning (grading: fail/pass);
  • Component 2 - professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence (grading: fail/pass);
Module Overview:
This module tests students knowledge and experience of teaching learners with deafblindness / multi-sensory impairment.
Additional Information:
This module mapped against the requirements for the Department for Education's (DfE) specification for specialist teachers of pupils with multi-sensory impairment / deafblindness, alongside the other modules in this programme.
