Aims

This module provides students with a grounding in the background law needed to fully understand the legal landscape in which medical law operates. This module has been designed to support both those with, and those without, a legal background. The assessments have been designed specifically to enable non-lawyer/legal background students to gain a firm grasp of legal writing, including syllogistic reasoning. Furthermore, this will ensure that lawyers/legal background students entering the course are refreshed in academic rigour, and stretched/challenged, in preparation to work as masters (FHEQ 7) level.

Learning Outcomes

Examine, in detail, the English legal system

Display mastery and be confident to research independently and seek advice as required

Develop the ability to identify and prioritise source materials needed for a proper understanding of the subject

Identify a critical awareness of the factors which shape medical law
5.
Identify an analytical and critical appreciation of practices within the field of medical law
6.
Demonstrate the ability to apply medical law in a variety of contexts

General Aspects of Substantive Medical Law
