Aims
To develop knowledge and understanding of the legal principles governing ownership and occupation of real estate.
To develop a critical appreciation of the practical application and impact of the legal framework on land and property interests.
Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the legislation and case law relating to property ownership and occupation.

Critically analyse the impact of legal rights and obligations across a range of practical real estate scenarios and reach sound, legally justified, conclusions.

Systematically and critically evaluate legal material in order to provide concise and effective written legal argument.

Critically evaluate the application of statutory codes and practice as they apply within the residential sector

Outline Syllabus:Law of Contract and Tort
Land law
Disputes and dispute resolution
Creation and termination of leases
Lease covenants, breaches and remedies
Green leases
Statutory protection of business stakeholders
Statutory protection within the residential sector
Additional Information:The module develops students’ knowledge of legal studies to enable the student to evaluate the application of the statutory framework as it applies to land and property ownership and occupation. It also provides a critical appreciation of the legal issues and problems relevant to the surveying profession.
