Aims
This module provides the theoretical underpinning of performance analysis in sport. The module includes a holistic viewpoint of performance analysis with the aim of improving performance output across both team and individual sports and athletes. This module will introduce technology, performance analysis processes and techniques, the importance of understanding client needs and how to cater for those needs. The use of analysis in strategy development, implementation and monitoring will be explored. Varied perspectives from across the sporting landscape will be captured in this module to provide an understanding of the use of performance analysis across varied sports.
The aims of this module are aligned with the qualification descriptors within the Quality Assurance Agency’s Framework for Higher Education Qualifications. The module aims to provide the student an opportunity to examine the area of performance analysis. Students are encouraged to evaluate, and critically reflect on their chosen sport for the use of performance analysis. This module aims to prepare students for life beyond postgraduate study, and further research opportunities suitable for academic publication.
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
- Critically review analysis procedures/techniques commonly used to track parameters of performance.
- Demonstrate competence in conducting a needs analysis and identifying appropriate performance indicators.
- Collect, review, analyse, interpret and report on performance data for a team or performer in sport.

This module is schedule for delivery in Semester 1 (Autumn)
Assessment can be modified for students with SEND to address their specific needs.
Knowledge of the subject matter will be communicated through lectures, practical sessions and tutorials. Appropriate supporting materials will be provided for these class sessions, together with a wider range of web-based learning resources and other student-centred learning opportunities. Practical classes will be used to develop expertise and apply theoretical content into practice. Self-managed time and private study should be distributed over the whole semester and not left until the final weeks.
