Aims

This module provides the knowledge and expertise to assess and find talent within a sporting domain who can make positive contributions to teams/athletes within sport.  Concepts such as talent detection, identification and selection in order to make informed decisions related to athlete recruitment are embedded into this module.  Exploration of performance vs potential ratings to make informed assessments on athletes is included in this module.  The importance of bias and the impact will be included within this module to ensure there is a robust approach to scouting and recruitment practice. 

The aims of this module are aligned with the qualification descriptors within the Quality Assurance Agency’s Framework for Higher Education Qualifications. The module aims to provide the student an opportunity to examine the area of performance assessment.  This module aims to prepare students for life beyond post-graduate study, and further research opportunities suitable for academic publication.

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

  1. Critically review the process of talent detection, identification and selection for the purposes of athlete recruitment.
  2. Critically review literature used in performance assessment to enable justified decision-making processes.
  3. Evaluate and reflect on the concepts of Performance vs Potential.
  4. Evaluate the requirements of team/individual needs to support the identification of appropriate talent
  5. Collect, analyse and present data in an appropriate manner.

Module Overview:
This module is schedule for delivery in Semester 1 (Autumn)

Assessment can be modified for students with SEND to address their specific needs.
Additional Information:
 Knowledge of the subject matter will be communicated through lectures, practical sessions and tutorials. Appropriate supporting materials will be provided for these class sessions, together with a wider range of web-based learning resources and other student-centred learning opportunities. Practical classes will be used to develop expertise and apply theoretical content into practice.  Self-managed time and private study should be distributed over the whole semester and not left until the final weeks.
