Aims
The module aims to enable participants to relate their professional experience to the overall developments in provision for pupils with visual impairment at both regional and national levels. A key emphasis will be on roles and responsibilities within the context of inclusion and the changing role of the specialist teacher and other professionals.
Learning Outcomes

Review and critically appraise legislation and national and local policies, procedures and guidelines, including statutory assessment processes, relating to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and, in particular, those with VI

Assess and critically evaluate the organisational and interpersonal constraints in establishing effective support for VI learners.

Critically review and evaluate school/setting self-evaluation and improvement processes, including the mechanisms for setting priorities, objectives and targets and translating these into policies and strategies
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:National legislation and national and local policies, procedures and guidelines, including statutory assessment processes;
the range of educational provision for learners with VI;
Statutory and non-statutory curriculum frameworks and their associated assessment criteria and processes and reporting procedures;
Arrangements to support access to assessment processes;
School/setting self-evaluation and improvement processes;
Current SEN and disability-specific terminology and how it is used in relation to the education, health and care of learners with VI.

Additional Information:This module is part of the PG Diploma in Teaching Visually Impaired Learners delivered in collaboration with St Vincent’s School. It includes a negotiated programme of visits for you to observe different types of provision for children and young people with visual impairment. Participants will be expected to keep a reflective journal and undertake a series of focused tasks during these visits
