Aims

The aim of this module is to allow costume makers to be instructed in a range of pattern cutting and making techniques associated with different periods and styles and to explore a variety of approaches to innovative costume construction. The module also requires students to demonstrate progress in technique on the basis of critical self reflection.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Evaluate and implement a wide range of advanced costume making techniques and engage in sophisticated judgement in their application.
2.
Develop methods for recording and analysing the costume making process and apply documentation to disseminate your practice.
3.
Systematically gather relevant supporting research, evaluate its significance and propose conclusions.
4.
Communicate creative intentions through innovative, experimental and varied pattern cutting approaches to translate both historical and contemporary silhouettes.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The module will focus on a core of pattern cutting and making techniques associated with a range of styles and periods of costume with exploration of associated crafts. This will be supported through considered documentation and reflective analysis of the development of the student's practice.
