Aims
This module aims to develop an understanding of threats to and the security requirements of IT and OT systems in the maritime context. It also provides the fundamental knowledge on current research issues essential for cybersecurity in the maritime sector.
Learning Outcomes

Develop the knowledge of various security threats and vulnerabilities in IT and OT systems as well as the significance of cybersecurity in the maritime sector
2.
Critically assess a variety of generic security technologies for the protection of systems.
3.
Examine current research issues in maritime cybersecurity.
4.
Gain knowledge of practical measures that can be applied in implementing a cybersecurity strategy.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
- Digitalisation: Introducing the development of digitalisation in the maritime sector, including both shipping (onboard and onshore) and port sectors.
- Cyber threats: Discuss threats of cybersecurity in the maritime sector, including malware, phishing, human factor, etc. as well as the consequences of maritime cyberattacks. Provide some cases.
- Maritime cyber risk management: Discuss Cybersecurity guidelines from IMO and classification societies and industry best practice.
- Review possible methods/tools for mitigating the likelihood and impacts of cyberattacks in the maritime sector, as well as the importance of cybersecurity awareness and education.
- Current research issues in maritime cybersecurity: research informed.
