Aims

The aim of this module is to provide knowledge about how Renewable Industry Economics are managed. In particular the logistics of renewable industry, economies of scale, Risk Mitigation renewable industry operations, Cost Benefit Analysis, and Net Present Value.

Learning Outcomes

Use conceptual models to develop economic business strategies.

Appraise the process through which economic decisions are taken and the range of factors which inform that process.
3.
Appraise a range of renewable related safety issues and apply risk mitigation techniques to a range of renewable case studies.
4.
Evaluate current Cost Benefit Analysis, break-even and Net Present Value for renewable systems.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Financial viability of renewable industry projects (supply and demand, time value of money, depreciation and tax, profit and loss, cost breakdown and voyage analysis and annual and discount cash flow analysis, etc.)

Become aware of renewable risk and safety mitigation (accident analysis including human life loss, property loss, and environmental impact) in terms of economic consequences and losses. Safety management, maritime safety current status, formal safety assessment and risk assessment techniques.

Regulatory framework, comprising of rules and regulations covering design and operational issues of logistics in renewable industry.

Economics Supply and demand for Renewable industry. Renewable system type, and size and economies of scale. Productivity and utilisation measurement. New building market. Renewable commissioning and disposal/reuse. Renewable operation and power supply costing/financing.
Module Overview:
This module will enable the students understand the economics of renewable industry projects including cost benefit analysis, and net present value, logistics, and operational risk mitigation.
Additional Information:
This module is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and understanding of costs involved in generating renewable energy.
