Aims

To develop an understanding of mental health in children and young people using a multi-disciplinary approach.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Critically analyse the effects of mental health on children, young people and families
2.
Critically evaluate the prevention and health promotion needs for children and young people's complex mental health problems
3.
Critically explore and evaluate the common and complex mental health disorders in children and young people.
4.
Critically analyse and evaluate the external factors which impact on children and young people's mental health.
5.
Critically reflect the self of the practitioner as this relates to working with children and young people experiencing complex mental health problems

Outline Syllabus:
Introduction to Mental health in children and young people To understand child development and how this is interrupted Prevention and Health Promotion Early Intervention Spectrum of Need Consent, the Law and Ethics Common and Complex Disorders Inc.: Self harm and suicide, Eating Disorders, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and PTSD Associated Problems Influences Effective and Sensitive Communication Risk taking behaviours Personal and professional resilience Transition Debate and Debrief
Module Overview:
This module offers a multi-disciplinary perspective on children and young people's mental health, covering child development, prevention, early intervention, various disorders, communication, and resilience.
Additional Information:
This is an option module on the MA Mental Health & MA Nursing. It is also a stand alone CPD
