Aims

This module aims to enable students to produce a masters level dissertation. The case study will investigate a complex and strategic work based leadership issue putting into practice the skills and knowledge gained over the duration of the programme and applying concepts from wider leadership and management literature.

Learning Outcomes

A systematic understanding of organisational research methodology and its practical application.
2.
The ability to utilise and critique theories and concepts from the published literature on healthcare leadership.
3.
The ability to devise and execute a coherent plan for the healthcare leadership case study research, analysis and writing up.
4.
The practical skills required to plan a rigorous healthcare leadership case study.
5.
The ability to apply theories and methods of reflective practice.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Research ethics and insider research, Stakeholder engagement, Research impact, Purpose and practice of data sourcing, Research design, Data gathering techniques, Managing the research process, Reflection and reflexivity, Identify research and data tools and resources.
Module Overview:
This module, part of the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme, will prepare you for your healthcare leadership case study. You’ll learn how to collect and analyse information and make sense of this through different theoretical approaches that govern the way you understand the world and in turn influence your leadership. Working independently, you will conduct and write up your case study, which will be a critical evaluation of the way in which care quality, diverse patient experience and patient engagement have improved as a result of your own and your team’s learning and leadership actions.
Additional Information:
The module requires that both assessment components need to be passed in order to obtain an overall pass mark on the module. This has been approved through a variance (21/08/2023).
