Aims
This module aims to provide an opportunity to work on a design project for an internal or external client to design a solution to an open-ended problem presented by the client. It will require students to work as a project team, demonstrate initiative, and work together the client to develop a design specification and project plan. The participants will select appropriate engineering and design processes and techniques to produce a solution which meets the specification.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Conceptualise and design a project for a client and apply good project management practices to manage a team’s delivery of a programme of work.
2.
Research and critically evaluate information from an established body of knowledge to generate innovative solutions relating to the client’s problem.
3.
Analyse complex open-ended problems presented by a client and apply engineering concepts and principles to produce a solution.
4.
Critically evaluate the designed solution and formulate justified conclusions.
5.
Communicate complex information to a client clearly and concisely.
6.
Demonstrate the ability to contribute effectively as a member of a project team.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
Establishing project requirements in conjunction with an external or internal client. Project planning and control to ensure an efficient, timely and effective outcome which meets client expectations. Design delivery and execution of a technical design project, according to a plan. Communicate design solutions effectively using written reports and presentations.
