Aims

This module will explore the concept of public health across the lifespan.  Furthermore, critically analysing local, national and global directives, considering the rationale for policy and governance to demonstrate evidence-based practice and application in their specific fields.   Additionally, identifying trends and themes to work in an asset-based format delivering upstream, evidence based led interventions to improve population health outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

Synthesise and promote the ability to practice autonomously, demonstrating entrepreneurship and innovation to implement attainable solutions with complex public health challenges incorporating evidence-based practice relating to your field of practice.
2.
Critically analyse the connections between global/national socio-economic and political strategies, policies and their impact on public health, and the impact of climatic events within their specialised field.
3.
Critically explore how to select and apply relevant governance requirements to public health practice ensuring moral concordance to align with equality, diversity and inclusion.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The outline syllabus is adaptive, content include:
  • Overview of health and public health.
  • Different perspectives on health.
  • Determinants of health.
  • Concepts of need.
  • Exploration of the role of a public health practitioner within your field of practice.
  • How current policy affects you and how you can influence future policy.
  • Inequalities in health programmes that tackle health inequalities.
  • Evidence based practice.
  • Where to find good epidemiological data. Health needs assessment. Health promotion.
  • Working with communities Partnership working.
Module Overview:
This module aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to work as a public health practitioner in the community setting within your field of practice.

It introduces the discipline of public health and the use of evidence to improve services. You will also learn how public policy can influence health needs and service development. The wider determinants of health and health inequalities will be examined in detail. Principles and concepts of health promotion will also be covered.
