Aims

To prepare for real-world applications of theoretical knowledge and technical skills, alongside developing professional competencies that enhance effective working across a range of performance based settings. This will include critical engagement and conceptual/comprehensive understanding through developing skills in reflective practice and communication at the individual and multidisciplinary team levels, to improve holistic interdisciplinary understanding.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of how to effectively communicate sport & exercise science information to a range of key stakeholders in a clear, accessible manner, fostering understanding and adherence to prescribed interventions
2.
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the importance of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and interdisciplinary collaboration with other professionals to enhance the overall support provided to individuals and/or teams
3.
Critically engage in reflective practice, evaluating personal competencies and skills, alongside understanding areas for improvement with the aim of continuous professional development

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Understanding the sport & exercise environment | the self-aware practitioner | searching and applying for jobs | ethical working practices | developing key skills for working successfully in sport & exercise science | working in a multidisciplinary team | psychological considerations for performance | nutritional considerations for performance
Module Overview:
This module is designed to prepare for employment in applied sport & exercise science and to develop real-world applications of theoretical knowledge and technical skills learned in the fundamental knowledge strand of the programme. This will include developing understanding of the working environment within sport & exercise science, alongside the knowledge and behaviours required to be successful in strength & conditioning. This will include engaging in identification and development of key non-technical skills, self-evaluation, planning professional development and reflective practice on experiences from the real-world performance environment, within both the strength & conditioning discipline and when collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Additional Information:
Lecture content and assessment formats will be aligned to the competency frameworks required for the The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), United Kingdom Strength & Conditioning Association (UKSCA) and National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) accreditation processes, alongside being informed by key stakeholders within research and industry.
