Aims

This module aims to provide an opportunity to work on an industry driven project for an internal or external client to develop a solution to a presented open-ended problem. It will require students to investigate a complex and industry relevant work based problem putting into practice the skills and knowledge gained over the duration of the course, as well as demonstrate initiative, and develop a clear specification and project plan. The participants will select appropriate processes and techniques to produce a solution which meets the specification.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Conceptualise and design a project for a client and apply good project management practices to manage delivery of a programme of work.
2.
Research and critically evaluate information from an established body of knowledge to generate innovative solutions relating to the client’s problem.
3.
Analyse complex open-ended problems presented by a client and apply engineering and management concepts and principles to produce a solution.
4.
Critically evaluate the designed solution and formulate justified conclusions.
5.
Critically reflect upon your own learning journey and create an appropriate action plan for your future progression.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Establishing project requirements in conjunction with an external (Industry) or internal (University) client. Project planning and control to ensure an efficient, timely and effective outcome which meets client expectations. Design delivery and execution of a technical design or management project, according to a plan. Communicate solutions effectively using written reports and presentations.
Module Overview:

It will require you to investigate a complex  industry relevant work based problem, demonstrate initiative, and work together with the client to develop a design specification and project plan. You will select appropriate engineering and/or management processes and techniques to produce a solution which meets the specification.
Additional Information:
The project provides the opportunity to conduct a major learning activity on a relevant relevant maritime, transport, logistics or supply chain organisational or technical topic. The project requires the student to demonstrate good project management, engineering and management skills application, critical evaluation and presentation skills in a team working environment.
