Aims
This module aims to develop integrated knowledge of medicines use (including evidence base, national standards, funding arrangements and cost effectiveness) in advanced and specialist practice.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Identify and appraise medicines safety issues in a defined area of practice and propose strategies for mitigating these risks
2.
Appraise medicines use in a defined area of practice against relevant national standards
3.
Implement evidence based medicine and best practice in the management of individual patients, whilst highlighting gaps / limitations in the evidence base
4.
Evaluate the financial challenges associated with medicines use in individual patients or groups of patients
5.
Judge your competence as a practitioner and develop a proactive approach to keeping knowledge and skills up-to-date

Outline Syllabus:Medicines safety in the NHS
Local and national drivers relating to medicines use – e.g. CQUINs, CQC
inspections, NHSLA, RPS Hospital Pharmacy standards
Evidence-based practice
Funding of drugs in NHS
Medicines management at organisational level

Additional Information:The majority of this module involves work-based training under the guidance of a Practice-based Tutor (PBT), following a prescribed schedule. The student and PBT are also supported by the Clinical Liaison Tutor team.
