Aims

The aim of this module is to develop pharmacists to facilitate effective prescribing considering clinical, ethical and legal factors, and prescribing in a wider context If undertaken with modules 7111CPPHAR (Therapeutics in Specialist Clinical Practice) and 7114CPPHAR (Clinical Skills), students can gain a Certificate in Independent Prescribing. The module requires students to demonstrate learning outcomes, via signoff by their Designated Medical Practitioner and through portfolio entries and other activities. Students have a maximum of 3 attempts over a maximum period of 12 months after achieving the module pass mark in which to demonstrate that they meet these learning outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate effective communication and person-centred care in patient care in an interprofessional team

Choose, or make recommendations on the most appropriate treatment by applying clinical knowledge to critically review patient care through use of appropriate information sources
3.
Demonstrate safe and cost effective prescribing taking into account legal, ethical and professional considerations in the context of local and national guidance
4.
Appraise own competence and limitations as a prescriber and formulate a development plan to address weakness identified
5.
Keep appropriate records and work within relevant clinical governance frameworks

Module Overview:
This module aims to prepare Pharmacists for prescribing practice and is supported by a Designated Medical Practitioner to hone prescribing skills. The module facilitates effective prescribing considering clinical, ethical and legal factors.
Additional Information:This module aims to prepare pharmacist for prescribing roles. If undertaken with module 7111CPPHAR & 7114CPPHAR , students can gain a Certificate in Independent Prescribing.
