Aims

To provide integrated knowledge and understanding of the underpinning basis of medicines use in advanced clinical practice for application to individual patients. The module requires students to demonstrate learning outcomes via portfolio and other activities. Students have a maximum of 3 attempts over a maximum period of 12 months after achieving the module pass mark in which to demonstrate that they meet these learning outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

Apply knowledge of specialist area and its treatment to select, or make recommendations on, appropriate use of treatment
2.
Critically review treatments, taking into account diagnosis, guidelines, toxicity, and patient factors, and select, or make recommendations on, treatment including managing adverse effects of therapy.
3.
Identify, assess and manage safety issues and pharmacological care relating to specialist clinical practice
4.
Appraise own competence as a clinical practitioner and formulate a development plan to address weaknesses identified.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:To be determined based on individuals advanced clinical practice. Students will undertake self-directed study supported by a tutor. Areas of advanced clinical practice could include: HIV; Viral hepatitis; STDs Transplant and immunosuppression Substance use Respiratory Cardiology Diabetes Pain management RPS Faculty Expert Professional Practice curricula (where relevant)
Module Overview:
This module aims to provide integrated knowledge and understanding of the underpinning basis of medicines used in advanced clinical practice for application to individual patients.
Additional Information:This module extends clinical knowledge and skills to apply it to more specialised patients and settings. Tutors with expertise in the therapeutic area will support students. If undertaken with modules 7114CPPHAR (Clinical Skills) and 7115CPPHAR (Prescribing Effectively in Practice), students can gain a Certificate in Independent Prescribing.
