Aims

The overall aim and distinctive quality of the module is to produce postgraduates capable of ‘problem-solving’ in the field of criminal investigations. This module will examine the administrative difficulties posited during a criminal investigation and the importance of investigative ethics. Further, this module will examine the contributions that forensics bestow upon criminal investigations. Aims: 1. To introduce students to a core of foundational concepts of criminal investigations, understand, explain, analyse and evaluate causes, sustainment and consequences of a criminal incident. 2. To encourage students to reflect upon, explain, analyse and evaluate critical evidence beyond a basic first responder response to investigate various criminal activities. 3. To critically engage with, explain, analyse and evaluate the central issues surrounding criminal investigations, with an emphasis on hands-on learning with critical reflection to develop professional practice.

Learning Outcomes

Analyse and evaluate criminal evidence at crime scenes and how evidence is used in criminal investigations.

Analyse and evaluate the different methods of conducting a criminal investigation.

Analyse and evaluate the challenges faced in completing a successful criminal investigation.
