Aims

The aim of the module is to explore the use of modern and innovative pedagogical techniques to deliver teaching and enhance education across a range of healthcare contexts. 

Learning Outcomes

Show a critical understanding of innovative approaches for the delivery of teaching and facilitation of learning within a clinical education context
2.
Critically consider the barriers and challenges of innovation within the context of clinical education
3.
Demonstrate an understanding of the key steps involved in taking an innovation from idea to implementation

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The module will include the following elements to explore:
  • Developing an innovative approach, concepts and steps from idea to implementation
  • Technological enhancement of learning including digital teaching aids such as VR, AI and the use of smartphones 
  • Simulation and how to make the most of its use and application
  • The use of online tools, VLE and how to engage the learner through distance and online mechanisms
  • The application of social media to clinical education 
  • Innovations in practice learning
  • Barriers and opportunities to innovation development in healthcare education and learning in context

 
Module Overview:
This module explores the latest innovations and developments in teaching and education to offer students the opportunity to push the boundaries of traditional clinical education and enhance their knowledge, skills and the application of education across a number of different processes and techniques. 

The module commences in April and consists of 12 sessions which are a blend of both online and face to face lectures and seminars which allows the students to explore innovations in clinical education, developing their own perspectives and ideas about effective and engaging learning opportunities and innovations within the field of clinical education.
