Aims

The aim of this module is to equip the SCPHN students to promote and protect children, young people and families in the safeguarding arena.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Evaluate and synthesise the SCPHN role in identifying, safeguarding, and protecting children, young people and families across diverse communities.
2.
Critically explore the role of the SCPHN in collaborative working, including evaluation of lessons learnt from serious case reviews and current legislation.
3.
Critically analyse factors that create health inequalities in safeguarding and explore the challenges when working with children, young people and families.
4.
Critically explore relevant legal and policy frameworks for SCPHN practice.

The outline syllabus is adaptive, content includes:
  • Professional curiosity
  • Adverse childhood experiences
  • Legal frameworks, legislation and procedures
  • Types of abuse
  • Safeguarding simulation films  
  • Protective and risk factors
  • Partnership working.
Module Overview:
This module is to equip the SCPHN students to promote and protect children, young people and families in the safeguarding arena. It will enhance skills and knowledge in identifying risks and intervening to safeguard individuals and families.
