Aims
This module places emphasis upon the public health concepts underpinning practice and the integration of theory to your area of practice (health visiting or school nursing). There is a vision that Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN’s) will take the management of care to new and exciting levels. This module will develop innovative, compassionate reflective practitioners, committed to making a meaningful difference to their community.
There will be clear field specific teaching (Health Visiting and School Nursing) sessions throughout the module, including child development, minor illnesses and transition services through the developmental stages
The Practice Assessment Documents (PAD) are differentiated into field specific formats to demonstrate the different standards of proficiency.
Learning Outcomes
Module Content
The outline syllabus is adaptive and responsive to current issues and priorities in community health.
Content includes:
- Contemporary policy and legislative context
- Advancing the role of the SCPHN (field specific for school nurse and health visitor)
- Integrated, collaborative and partnership working in the community
- Case load management
- Sophisticated communication skills to establish therapeutic relationships.
- Promoting inclusivity within vulnerable cohorts
- Supporting positive behaviour change to improve health outcomes
- Discuss and debate the application of genomics into SCPHN practice (field specific school nurse and health visitor)
- Evaluate the relationship between education, life, mental and physical health and ill health to support the holistic needs of school age children and young people in and outside of school.
To help the student to maximise learning opportunities and experiences within their practice field. There is a necessity for the student to be exposed to wider, complex issues within the community and how to strategically plan for care delivery.
There are three components which all need to be achieved in order to secure success within the module. Practice assessment will be monitored by the assessor, supervisor and the academic assessor throughout the programme (tripartite visits), whilst the poster and the professional conversation will be assessed by the programme leads in collaboration with practice partners.
This module has a PASS/FAIL competency practice assessment. This is assessed in the practice assessment document (PAD).
Please note students are only permitted two attempts at the practice competency element
