Aims
1.To provide a critical knowledge base of the philosophical foundations of health and social research. 2.To enable the student to develop expertise in a qualitative and quantitative data analysis. 3.To prepare the student to carry out empirical and literature based research.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Evidence the use of appropriate frameworks to collate and critically analyse literature relevant to the proposed research question
2.
Using relevant literature, critically analyse the philosophical location of the proposed research approach/approaches
3.
Critically discuss research design and methodology that is suitable to address the proposed question
4.
Critically explore potential ethical principles, including mitigations, within the context of the proposed project

Additional Information:This module encourages students to develop their skills as a potential producer of research, as well as their ability to systematically evaluate research outcomes from a variety of sources. In addition, students will engage in a variety of data analysis techniques. The module is firmly based in a thorough philosophical understanding of the nature of research and its implications in health and social care practice.
