Aims

To enable staff to develop a critical understanding of pedagogical research design and operation.

Learning Outcomes

Critically examine the impact of methodology on primary research in higher education.

Critically analyse key methods of inquiry in higher education.

Critically reflect on the ethical dimensions of primary research in higher education.

Examine the resource implications of research design.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Evidence based practice in higher education, qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research methodologies. Key methods of inquiry for educational research, research using 'found data'. Data management and analysis, research ethics, the principles of effective research design.  The role of student voice in pedagogic research.
Module Overview:
This module aims to help staff develop a critical understanding of the design and operation of primary research associated with academic practice in higher education. It supports the development of a research plan by exploring key debates, practices, and approaches in higher education research.
