Aims
This module will provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to manage across, and work effectively within, culturally diverse teams. It will enable students to: develop a critical understanding of cross-cultural theories and their application in an international business context; identify the ways in which culture and diversity influences leadership styles, especially understanding ethical leadership in different cultures; as well as to develop and evaluate the skills needed to successfully communicate, negotiate, and work within culturally diverse teams. Students will reflect upon their own cross-cultural skills and apply relevant theory to their personalised context.
Learning Outcomes

Review and critically evaluate main theories and contemporary research in the field of International Human Resource Management.
2.
Critically appraise cross-country variations in institutions and culture against their impact at both the business-level and individual-level.
3.
Critically apply relevant theory to international practices of ethical and responsible leadership.
4.
Reflect critically on own cross-cultural communication skills and through personal experiences, make recommendations for how best to approach cultural differences in communication.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
- Critical perspectives on cross-cultural management - understanding the models and theories in cross-cultural management in the context of national and organizational cultural settings, as well as societal impacts.
- The impact of multi-cultural teams and managing diversity, including international practices of ethical and responsible leadership.
- Comparing business cultures around the World, detailing cross-country variation in institutions and culture, and its impact on business and societal practices.
- Critically analysing models of national culture.
- Equality, diversity and cultural relativity aspects to managing people.
- Group work theory and effective working in culturally diverse teams, including cross-cultural communication skills.
- Developing as a reflective practitioner and understanding relevant reflective frameworks to learn from personal experiences as on-going professional development.
