Module Overview:
This module focuses on enhancing skills and knowledge in holistic wound care management to improve care for individuals with tissue viability issues. It also emphasizes understanding and applying wound care policies and guidelines at various levels to inform best practices.
Additional Information:
This stand-alone module is designed to enable the student to critically analyse, from a holistic perspective, factors affecting tissue viability and wound management , whilst ensuring the psychological and physical well being of the patient is addressed. Wound bed preparation and dressing/ treatment choices will be examined, in line with local, National and International guidelines, to ensure safe, efficient, high quality tissue viability care is delivered. The student will be able to demonstrate their ability to improve an area of practice in their own practice environment. The module learning outcomes and relevant subject benchmark statements are in line with the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The programme is aligned to the Level 7 descriptors for a Level 7 Higher Education Qualification. The assessment has one element:- A 3,500 word critically reflective patient case study, designed to test all learning outcomes. The module involves classroom attendance, which is further supported by a range of learning support tools. This is a part time module run over 8 full day sessions, and students attend via direct face to face teaching and through a blended approach using the universities Virtual Learning Environment platform. The module start date will be September, details for application found on the university fact file The criteria for admission to the module require that candidates are currently employed and practicing within their professional area with patients with tissue viability problems. Candidates will have evidence of ability to study at academic level 7. Whilst ideally candidates will have a minimum of a degree (level 6), it is appreciated that some nurses will have not have studied to this level. Additional study skills training will be offered to this group (these are routinely available through the library) The students have access to a virtual learning environment and the University's other range of electronic support such as access to the electronic library facilities. The VLE site reflects contemporary reading lists and links to journal articles, which continue to be updated. The virtual learning environment offers access to learning in other support areas, such as critical writing and referencing and library support. The students also have access to the module leader through phone contact, emails and face to face meetings. A module guide is also provided, which guides students to the wider range of support available. Further support available to all students can be found within the virtual learning environment and in the wider university website. The module is assessed and offered in line with the Academic Framework https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/academic-registry/staff/quality-and-standards/frameworksand-regulations Attendance is required throughout the module. Attendance includes either direct face to face contact or engagement within the associated learning material which will be available through the virtual learning environment. The methods for improving the quality and standards of learning are as follows: • Continual Monitoring Engagement • Student Liaison and feedback • On-going liaison with the External Examiner • Reports to and from the External Examiner • Module team ensuring that the content reflects the values of the current teaching and learning strategy • Module leader updating knowledge and skills to ensure these remain current and relevant • Continual review of the virtual learning environment This is a Stand alone CPD module. A specific External Examiner is identified for the module. They will also review work submitted by students The final award for the stand-alone Continuing Professional Development – Advancing Wound Care, 20 credits at Level 7 The programme code is 36764
