Aims
This module develops insight and critical understanding of strategic approaches to people, engagement, organisational culture, and values. Furthermore, it will evaluate how changing demands in these areas can be managed within a policing context. Drawing on contemporary theories, models, and practices, it will explore the relationship between people management and resourcing, and organisational culture and performance, and the strategies that support the development of high-performance teams and engaged work cultures in challenging working environments.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Critically analyse key concepts of strategic people management and evaluate how these can be understood in relation to business strategy, organisational structure, and the social, political, and economic context of the law enforcement organisation.
2.
Assess the impact of competing business, legislative, ethical, and social drivers for equity, equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging, making recommendations for strategy and policy improvements in this area.
3.
Critically appraise the theoretical underpinnings of high-performance teams and engaged work cultures and the factors that impact people's performance.

- Evaluating the diverse and inclusive workplace, focusing on health and safety, wellbeing, mental health and building personal resilience, and creating an inclusive workplace culture.
Module Overview:
Learners will critically investigate the developments in people management and practice in the context of a continuously evolving policing environment.
Learners will also explore the role of values in more depth, considering the key concepts of organisational behaviour, and organisational culture and how these can drive business effectiveness and performance. These fundamental underpinnings will form the foundation for future modules.
Learners will critique a wide range of literature, cases and example which explores the future world of work which will include the advancement in technology, sociodemographic changes, political and economic impact, and influences.
