Module Overview:

Additional Information:
The Clinical Examination module will be delivered on a part time attendance basis, utilising a two hour time slot once per week. The module is a work-based, blended approach to learning, subjects are introduced in a keynote lecture and practical demonstration of individual skills, which will be consolidated by students practicing these skills under direct supervision within the skills laboratory. This necessitates students practicing new skills on other students within the group. Student’s privacy and dignity will be maintained throughout and no invasive procedures will be performed. To aid development of clinical examination skills, it is essential that the students reinforce their learning within their clinical work environment. To ensure safe practice and the development of core skills the students are asked to identify an informal mentor who can give positive feedback and guide their individual learning needs.

Within the programme, a variety of teaching and learning activities will be used. Interactive lectures will provide the opportunity for theoretical material to be delivered in a structured manner, though a major emphasis of this programme, somewhat different to many other programmes, is that of clinical skill development. Therefore students are expected to expand their own knowledge of the subject by reading and discussion with clinical colleagues and students. It is expected that each student will approach the lectures from a different perspective and each student’s further study will be individual to them. To support individual learning the module team have developed an extensive interactive learning resources within the Virtual Learning Environment, Canvas.

The module learning outcomes and relevant subject benchmark statements are in line with the QAA framework for higher education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The module is aligned to the Level 7 descriptors for a Level 7 Higher Education Qualification.

The following variance to the Academic Framework Regulations was approved by Chairs Action of Education Committee on 26 July 2021;

70032MMADV – Clinical Examination has a practice competency element (OSCE) which must be satisfied prior to the release of credit for the module. Students failing the competency element will be deemed to have failed that attempt at the module.
