Aims

This module aims to explore the concept of public service leadership through a personal, professional and organizational lens. Learners will be introduced to, and draw upon theoretical perspectives to illustrate the complexity of leadership within different sectors. As a result students will identify and challenge both personal and professional constructs of leadership and leader development in the public sector.

Learning Outcomes

Critically evaluate and reflect upon personal characteristics/leadership qualities and its relationship to current context and organisational effectiveness
2.
Critically appraise personal strengths, areas for development and create a personal development plan incorporating SMART targets
3.
Critically reflect upon effective interpersonal leadership attributes that support teams and enhance innovative leadership practice as applied to strategic goals
4.
Drawing on both historical and current leadership methodologies, critically analyse, synthesise, and demonstrate the application of creative and innovative solutions to contemporary policing challenges
5.
Critically assess ethical considerations for current leadership practice within law enforcement

Module Overview:
By applying theory to your practice, this module will aim to equip you with the knowledge and understanding of the complex dynamics of leadership to help you in your own development and that of leading teams effectively.

In combination with the programme you will explore your strengths and weaknesses as a leader, learn how to articulate effectively your own personal leadership style and those within your organisation and identify effective and ineffective leadership in the law enforcement context.
