Aims

To enable staff to critique and enhance their skills in inclusive curriculum design and evaluation. 

Learning Outcomes

1.
Deconstruct the notion of an inclusive curriculum.
2.
Critically consider the capacity of the curriculum to support positive outcomes for students from diverse backgrounds.
3.
Critically evaluate the impact of local and national policies on inclusive practice.
4.
Critically reflect on professional practice and development in the context of the Professional Standards Framework and SEDA Values.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Effective practice in course design.  Supporting diversity and inclusivity in the curriculum. Co-creation: the importance of belonging and mattering.  Decolonising the curriculum.  Opportunities and strategies to understand and respond to the student voice.  Student engagement strategies.  Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
Module Overview:
This module aims to help staff critique and improve their skills in inclusive curriculum design and evaluation in higher education. It emphasizes the curriculum's role in inclusive practice and fosters learning design skills based on constructive alignment and universal design principles. This module is mapped to the Professional Standards Framework and is part of the Advance HE CPD Fellowship programmme. Successful completion of this module and 7001ACADEM lead to Fellowship of Advance HE.
Additional Information:
The module focuses on the importance of the curriculum for the delivery of inclusive practice in higher education. Participants will develop strong learning design skills and the examiner the principles of universal design in higher education (Burgstahler). Sessions will focus on supporting student diversity in the achievement of strong student outcomes.
