Topics covered include cardiovascular anatomy, pathophysiology, management, long-term effects, healthcare implications, patient perspectives, and ethical issues.
Additional Information:
The module delivery runs over 6 full day sessions and this includes the assessment requirement. The module is delivered through a variety of learning opportunities including lectures, seminars, workshops and group work that all take place within a classroom setting, therefore attendance for face to face learning is required. This is further supported through the use of the VLE for online reading and knowledge development and to enhance and stretch learners through the use of directed and independent study. Students will have access to the LJMU VLE site and other electronic support such as access to the electronic library facilities. The module VLE site reflects contemporary reading lists and links to journal articles. The module VLE site also includes a number of presentations for students to access on areas such as critical writing and library support. Completion of a cardiac 'workbook' as revision of normal cardiac anatomy and physiology will be offered to all students prior to commencement of teaching.

The assessment has one element: Presentation of a case report of 3000 word equivalent, providing generic information on a relevant condition, but with in-depth focus of a specific area relating to the student's area of work. This could include for example surgery, post operative ITU care, and psychosocial aspects of care.
