Aims

To develop the student's ability to critically analyse and evaluate issues relating to the financial services industry. To develop understanding and skills to support a career in financial services, in the areas of (though not exclusive to) corporate and investment banking, wealth and asset management, risk management and financial services regulation. To develop critical analytical and evaluation skills relating to the financial services industry. This module is aimed at those with a career interest in financial organisations that operate in a fast-paced, regulated global environment.

Learning Outcomes

Analyse and evaluate current issues relating to financial services in an international context, notably with regard to financial services regulation.

Use critical and analytical approaches to understand the impact of business-led technology in financial services.
3.
Evaluate and analyse the future of financial services in a changing business environment.
4.
Understand and critically analyse issues relating to specifics of organisations operating in the financial services industry.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The scope and development of corporate and investment banking
Financial service regulation, including key topics: KYC and historical fraud cases
Business-led technology for financial services
Digital transformation and FinTech
Banking around the globe (key financial market places)
Disruptive models of banking and the effects on traditional modes of service
The future of financial services
Wealth and asset management in a changing environment
Module Overview:
Lectures, guest speakers from industry connected to 'living case study' approaches to learning
Interactive workshops/case study analysis
Private study.
Additional Information:
This module is focused on students who have a career in financial services. It is not meant to be a comprehensive introduction; it is a level 6 module which builds on the experience and knowledge of the students' career and previous academic achievement, aiming to develop an international 'future' focus. It is a cutting edge module with a focus on the current and future environment and role of banking, wealth management and operational (i.e. back office) roles within the financial services sector.
