Aims

To enable the students to critically evaluate and analyse tools, techniques and systems that support business intelligence in the workplace. Develop critical thinking, analysis, reasoning and interpretation of the methods and uses of business intelligence that impact their careers and job roles.

Learning Outcomes

Critically analyse and evaluate business processes and the mechanisms used to support business decision-making using information technology

Critically appraise and propose redesign, or introduction, of improved systems of business intelligence, in order to improve functionality and meet business objectives

Discuss and evaluate the impact of 'big data' and technologies for effective decision-making purposes in a globalised world

Critically evaluate and assess the importance of cyber security in business intelligence, in the international environment

Systems and technologies associated with business intelligence
The importance of reliable data in businesses
Improving the efficiency of a business processes
Support for operational tactical and strategic decisions-making
Business intelligence functionality: Analysing data, decision-making, problem solving, designing intuitive/innovative systems to address current and future business needs
Information systems at an operational, tactical and strategic level
Big Data
The legal/regulatory context in which business intelligence tools are used
Cybersecurity management:

Additional Information:
This module is designed to develop a critical and analytical faculty to underpin the operation, use and design of business intelligence tools/systems. Business intelligence is a growing and crucial area of international business, and an awareness and critical understanding of the rationale – and impact – of this subject is of particular relevance to students' future employment prospects.
