Aims

To develop problem-solving skills within a construction environment, including the processes and strategies undertaken by project managers to define, plan control and deliver project requirements.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Critically review the project life-cycle phases, processes, tools and techniques and the broader environment in which projects take place.
2.
Evaluate the relationship between change management and project management and be able to establish a change management process.
3.
Critically appraise key project evaluation monitoring and control techniques in the built environment and their importance in bringing projects to successful completion.
4.
Evaluate current issues in construction and describe alternative strategies to achieve the required outcomes.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The module will initially provide a broad overview of the make-up of a project within the built environment. -Analysis of a project life cycle -The process of defining the project -Setting objectives -Determining scope -Identifying stakeholders -Clarifying strategies -Project management processes -Project organisation (the people, the communication and -resources) -Risk and value management -Analyse planning fundamentals -Work content and scope management -Project budgeting -Resource management -Project monitoring and control -Change control -Contracts management -Supply chain management
