Aims

The Performer focuses on the further development of the individual performer and their instrumental/vocal specialism. The module aims to develop the conception, organisation, promotion, participation in and presentation of several music performance projects to a professional standard. Building upon and applying skills and technique in Level 4 and 5 modules, students are required to plan, execute and evaluate performance led projects over the course of the year, leading to a final performance

Learning Outcomes

1.
Perform as a featured artist / singer or instrumentalist / session musician to a professional standard in a variety of settings demonstrating the application of appropriate musical skills and techniques
2.
Document, archive and publicise on going music performances and related activity to a professional standard
3.
Exercise initiative and personal responsibility to manage the professional, commercial, legal, financial, promotional and technical practices, frameworks and contexts in which professional performers operate
4.
Analyse, reflect, review, and revise performance activity on an on-going basis

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This module allows the student to develop as individual performer to a professional level, to identify and to establish performance activities and projects focussed on a potential career. Lecture topics include: * Planning techniques * Establishing performance goals * Professional performance * Industry and critical evaluation skills * Performance agreement * Assessment strategy & critical evaluation * Project plans * Reflective journals * Marketing & Promotion * Technical data and production requirements, * Venues & touring * Stage presence * Maximising performance activities. * Press & radio interaction * Performances to industry * Providing promotional materials
