Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module is designed to deliver pre-professional level of skills in Contemporary dance techniques. The module builds on the teaching in level 5, with a focus on nurturing confident and versatile dancers with excellent technical abilities and virtuosity.
Throughout the year students continue to have regular classes, in which they refine and assimilate their technical and creative capabilities, critical understanding, observational skills and informed knowledge of Contemporary dance. The module will focus on acquisition of an integrated awareness of their bodies’ capabilities and the physical application of this understanding to their dance practice and performance.
Students will be exposed to different techniques and guest lecturers, to refine the ability to adapt and respond to differing techniques and approaches used by different practitioners. Technique study will continue to include Release based techniques, Partnering, Flying low, Contact Improvisation and Urban and hybrid forms of contemporary dance will be explored. Repertory fragments and choreographic works will be studied to extend and refine the students’ integration of challenging technical skills into artistic performance.
Students will be supported in developing individual solos that showcase their unique movement language and skills. Connecting with the Industry Showcase Week and the Creative Enterprise 3 module, students will be guided to explore their strengths and cur-rent weaknesses as performers, to formulate a clear awareness of their qualities as artists, and to be able to define their best strategy to step into the professional landscape.
Additional Information:This module will allow students to explore pre-professional Contemporary dance techniques.
Assessment is via a formally assessed class involving performed work. .
