Aims
1. Acquire professional levels of skill, knowledge, professional etiquette and career development expertise to appropriately plan and enter the next phase of their career post training.
2. Generate appropriate self-promotional materials.
3. Encourage the selection and development of appropriate audition materials, or opportunities to engage with simulated real life audition scenarios.
4. Provide the opportunity to construct a considered and realistic personal development and career plan.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module will include:
1. Audition Material and Preparation
Students will develop and refine the practical skills in the preparation for, and the execution of various types of professional audition and casting environments common in the Contemporary and Commercial Dance industries. This will include developing a knowledge of professional etiquette and (where appropriate) the selection of suitable audition material.
2. Promotional Material
Students will be guided in the development of self-promotional material, including head and body shots, showreels, business cards, CV and other materials for a professional portfolio. The CV will be submitted as part of AS2 Career Plan.
3. Business and Career Planning
Building on from their previous studies at level 4 and 5 students will follow a short lecture programme exploring:
• Employment patterns / Agents, Casings, Auditions, Interviews/ Funding structures and opportunities / Contracts / Taxation - Self-employment/Employment / Working internationally.
• Self-management and personal development - managing your career.
Learning Activities
The module will be delivered through:
• Lectures, seminars, master classes and, where appropriate, visits.
• Individual careers tutorial sessions.
• Development of Audition Materials or participation in simulated real life audition scenarios.
• Mock auditions, castings and interviews (some of which will be delivered by external casting directors, professional choreographers).
Additional Information:The module equips students with advanced knowledge of career and professional development skills as well as preparing them to showcase those skills to industry professionals.
Assessment is via a simulated industry audition and an essay.
