Aims
The aim of this module is to provide the student with:
1. The opportunity for students to further develop, and consolidate, their own personal approaches to acting, and deepen their understanding of how to utilise these skills in musical theatre performance;
2. The opportunity for students to develop their skills in working with a variety of material in the development of scripts/plays, consolidating their understanding of the process of transfer from page to performance.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Through synthesis and critical evaluation demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of his/her own individual process as an actor and apply to diverse contexts, roles and repertoire.
2.
Synthesise detailed knowledge and understanding of the key creative concepts and ideas which underpin contemporary performing arts practice.
3.
Synthesise the advanced use of acting techniques into stylistically appropriate performances as applicable to the genre of musical theatre.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module will comprise an exploration of key acting techniques, which should be studied in depth and used to apply to all musical theatre performance development. Activities will include:
1. Work on scripts and plays where students have a specific period of time to read, evaluate, respond and develop an appropriate, coherent and considered performance which utilises their own personal approach to acting within the dramatic/theatrical context of the varied work explored.
2. Ongoing exploration of their technique in Acting Class which will include workshops and master classes which explore diverse and contemporary approaches to acting, rehearsal and performance.
3. Exploration of the differing stylistic requirements of a career in musical theatre and how to synthesise knowledge and understanding of a range of cultural and historical performance styles into cohesive acting technique for musical theatre.
Additional Information:The module will be delivered via:
Workshops which explore diverse approaches to rehearsal and performance;
Staff-led acting workshops; and,
Studio-based performances.
