Aims

This module aims to make available to students a range of lectures and workshops on contemporary issues pertaining to Health & Social Studies. Issues may include current trends in society; areas of specialism within the Academic Team; areas of specialism of Guest Lecturers and/or the opportunity to explore wider module content in further detail. Students will be enabled to form a critical learning community in order to analyse issues so that a specialist knowledge base relevant to their areas of academic or professional practice can be developed.

Learning Outcomes

Identify, negotiate and critically analyse their learning outcomes.
2.
Critically analyse the evidence base/theory that underpins the selected issue presented at a named module lecture/workshop.
3.
Critically debate the extent to which the same issue might be interpreted and actioned in multiple ways with various potential outcomes.
4.
Analyse the impact of knowledge gained on an area of significance to health or social studies.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Module Content will be dependent on local, regional, national and international trends and current affairs as well as the specialisms of institutional staff and availability of guest lecturers. Content Areas may include: • Covid-19 • Youth Crime & Juvenile Justice • Brexit Implication on Health & Social Care • Immigration Policy • Conflict Management • Peace Education • Mental Health • Active Citizenship • Homelessness • Alcohol, Drug & Substance Misuse
