Aims
This module aims to allow students to develop and independently apply their empirical research skills in their chosen area of psychology. They will explore, in depth, recent and relevant literature in their chosen field and use it to guide the design of a methodologically appropriate study to address a specific research question. They will independently analyse, report and critically evaluate their data using scientific language and conventions.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The student devises and conducts a research project under supervision.
Additional Information:Students carry out an empirical investigation into a psychological area of their choice. Students attend two lectures covering assessment issues, ethical issues and literature searching skills. Students are expected to spend 105 hours in the preparation of their research proposal, ethics draft, draft dissertation and final dissertation. Students are expected to meet with their supervisor for up to 15 hours maximum of tutorials over the course of the module arranged by mutual agreement. These will be on a group and/or one-to-one basis. Students will have the opportunity to obtain feedback about the strengths and weaknesses of a draft copy of their dissertation report if they submit it by the agreed deadline.
