Aims
The aim of the module is to offer students the opportunity to build on their existing knowledge of pedagogy and practice from level 4 and 5 and ensure subject knowledge with practical examples of positive pedagogy for teaching in the early childhood or primary sector. This is an appropriate option module to choose for those wishing to pursue a career in teaching.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
The module explores the key features of an effective early childhood educator, including transitions to the primary classroom. It examines children’s well -being in all areas of learning and development and will enable students to reflect on theories of learning, child development and national policies within the early childhood and primary education sectors nationally and internationally.

Module Overview:
This module explores the effective early childhood and primary classroom through an examination of theory and practical activities. You are provided with a holistic understanding of the development of children and how early childhood settings and primary schools respond to their learning needs. Students will learn about the ways in which children’s language and literacy develops and the role of the teacher in supporting this. They will also explore the role of early childhood and primary education settings in providing personal, social and emotional nourishment for young children and will debate recent and relevant research and policy which influences and underpins the practice of early childhood and primary phase practitioners.
