Aims

The aim of this module is to introduce essential knowledge and discussion concerning the practice of Architecture. Emphasis will be placed on demonstrating in-depth skills in both thematic-led design and proven technical competence that are graduate standard and which graduates will confront within offices in their work placement year.

Learning Outcomes

Record and reflect upon the exploration of alternative options and the iterative design process and technical resolution of a comprehensive design project.

Apply understanding of building user's requirements and compliance with legislation in the context of building designs.
3.
Relate the roles of professional practice procedures, legislation and policy in the context of the procurement of buildings.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The module incorporates a lecture series on Professional Studies that explores principle of ethical and reflective design practice, particularly in relation to life safety and accountability to the global, national, and professional climate targets. It also incorporates a series of studio workshops and tutorials that apply this knowledge to the Comprehensive Design Project in module 6123ARC. Computer Aided Design Workshops focus on a developing a range of IT and CAD skills closely related to the architectural profession, with reference to established and emergent technologies used in industry.
